Exploring the World’s Largest Microdosing Study
n a world increasingly open to exploring the potential benefits of psychedelic substances for mental health and cognitive performance, a groundbreaking opportunity has emerged. Microdose.Me, in collaboration with Dr. Zachary Walsh from the University of British Columbia, has launched the world's largest mobile microdosing study. This unique project aims to shed light on the effects of microdosing psychedelic substances on cognitive performance and mental health, allowing participants to gain valuable insights into their well-being while ensuring their privacy and anonymity.
What is Microdosing?
Microdosing refers to the practice of consuming small, sub-perceptual amounts of psychedelic substances like psilocybin (found in magic mushrooms) or LSD on a regular basis. It’s a practice that has gained popularity in recent years, with many anecdotal reports suggesting potential positive effects on mood, focus, and overall well-being. However, limited scientific research exists in this area, making it crucial to investigate the actual effects of microdosing on brain performance and mental health.
How the Microdose.Me
Microdosing Study Works
The Microdose.Me study is designed to be convenient and accessible to all participants, whether they are experienced microdosers or have never tried psychedelic substances. Here’s how it works:
Increased Awareness: Participants have the opportunity to gain an increased awareness of how microdosing affects various aspects of their health and well-being. The study allows individuals to track changes in their health over time.
Anonymous Participation: Privacy is a top priority in this study. All data collection is self-administered, and participants remain entirely anonymous. Your name, email, and date of birth will not be requested.
Flexible Timing: You can participate at your own pace over a three-month period. The study only requires approximately three hours of your time in total, making it manageable for even the busiest individuals.
Open to Everyone: The study is open to both microdosers and non-microdosers, ensuring that the research encompasses a wide range of experiences and perspectives.
How You Can Participate
For those that want to participate in the Microdose.Me microdosing study, the first step is to go over to their website. Once you do that, you can follow the steps below for a streamlined guide on how to play your part.
- Download the Quantified Citizen app here.
- Complete an intake questionnaire that includes basic demographic information, medical history, and self-reported use of psychedelics (takes about 30 minutes).
- Regardless of microdosing, go about your daily routine, completing brief daily questionnaires (about 1 minute each) for up to three months.
- On a monthly basis, repeat the battery of cognitive performance and mental health assessments (about 20 minutes each).
- At the end of the three-month period, or whenever you decide to finish, complete a short closing survey (approximately 5 minutes).
It’s important to note that participation does not require using psychedelic substances. The study’s goal is to observe the effects on both microdosers and non-microdosers.
Who's Behind the Study?
Dr. Zachary Walsh, an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia, is leading this groundbreaking study. His dedication to scientific research in the field of psychedelics brings credibility and expertise to the project. If you have any questions or concerns about the study, you can reach out to Dr. Walsh at [email protected] or the Quantified Citizen team at [email protected].
The Benefits of
Participating in the Study
Participating in the Microdose.Me study offers several potential benefits. Firstly, it provides an opportunity for individuals to gain an increased awareness of how microdosing affects various aspects of their health and well-being. By tracking changes in their cognitive performance and mental health over time, participants can better understand the potential impact of microdosing on their lives. Additionally, contributing to scientific research in this emerging field is a significant benefit. By taking part in the study, individuals can help increase the current scientific understanding of the effects of psychedelic microdosing, potentially paving the way for future research and discoveries.
Moreover, the study places a strong emphasis on ensuring the privacy and anonymity of participants. With all data collection self-administered, individuals can rest assured that their personal information, including their name, email, and date of birth, will not be requested. This commitment to confidentiality allows participants to engage in the study with peace of mind.
Who Can Participate?
Most individuals are eligible to participate, provided they meet specific criteria. However, individuals under the age of majority, not fluent in English, unable to give informed consent, pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant during the study period, may not be eligible. Additionally, individuals with a history or active diagnosis of psychotic disorders, severe psychiatric disorders, family history of certain mental health conditions, progressive neurological conditions, or substance use disorders should exercise caution when participating.
Understanding Microdosing
More Than Ever
The Microdose.Me study is a significant step towards understanding the effects of microdosing on cognitive performance and mental health. By participating in this study, you not only gain insights into your well-being but also contribute to the scientific exploration of a fascinating field.
With privacy and anonymity safeguarded, this is a unique opportunity to be a part of groundbreaking research. If you’re interested in exploring the potential benefits and risks of microdosing, this study may be the perfect opportunity for you!
